In 2006, Maître Pierre Boulez chose Noam Zur as his assistant as well as consultant and conductor for the Lucerne Festival Academy (2006-2008).
During 2005-2007, Noam Zur was Principal Resident Conductor and Deputy Music Director of the Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra of Heidelberg, Germany.
In this position Mr. Zur conducted Don Giovanni, Nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, Werther, Barbiere di Siviglia, Frau Luna, der Wildschütz, Berenice (J.M. Staud), St. Nicolas (B. Britten), the Student Prince, and the European premiere of Daniel Catán's Florencia en el Amazonas, as well as many symphonic and choral works. In April 2007 he conducted his debut at the Aalto Theater in Essen in the Stefan Herheim Production of Don Giovanni (cast included Silvana Dussmann and Helen Donath, a.o.).
Born in 1981, he is emerging as one of Israel's most talented young conductors today. At only 20 years of age, Mr. Noam Zur participated in the 2001 Besançon International Conducting Competition and reached the quarter final round. In 2003, he was the youngest competitor to take part in the International Prokofiev Competition in St. Petersburg (Russia), where he reached the semi-final round.
In the spring of 2005 he was invited to conduct his debuts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in May, and with the Bochumer Symphoniker in June. In April 2005, Mr. Noam Zur gave his German Opera Debut with G. Verdi's "La Traviata" in the Opera of Heidelberg.
In November 2005, he conducted the Orchestra of the State Opera of Kassel (Germany) and in March 2006 the Israel Chamber Orchestra in a special concert. Mr. Zur was invited to guest conduct several orchestras in South Africa with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra during the 2005-2006 concert season.
In October 2004, Noam Zur conducted in the JMI Word on Music Series in Johannesburg, marking his South African debut, and a tour of several concerts with the Club UNESCO-sponsored "Orchestre pour la Paix" in France and Belgium. Mr. Zur gave his debut with the Beer Sheva Sinfonietta in March 2004, returned to the Abu Gosh Vocal Festival in May 2004, and led the Ashdod Chamber Orchestra for their season finale in June 2004.
In September 2003, Noam Zur conducted a concert tour of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland with the Swiss festival orchestra "I Sinfonietti 01". Following the success of the tour, and the raving press reviews, the orchestra appointed Mr. Zur as their Principal Guest Conductor.
The concert season of 2002-2003 saw his debut with the Israel Chamber Orchestra in December 2002. Also in this season, he gave his debut in the Abu Gosh Vocal Festival, conducting a program of Bach and Mozart with the Collegium Tel-Aviv, and members of the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as his debut with the Northern Israel Symphony, Haifa.
Upon his return from Besançon (September 2001), Mr. Zur was appointed the assistant conductor at the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and was invited to conduct the world-premiere of Menachem Zur's "Concerto for Orchestra (
)" with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA in March 2002. Since then, he collaborates with the orchestra on a regular basis, and was invited to conduct a Mozart-Schumann program in June 2003.
Noam Zur has participated in master-classes and seminaries with conductors and teachers like Zubin Mehta, Leonard Slatkin, Prof. Ilya Musin, Klaus Weise, Neeme Jarvi, Jorma Panula and others, at locations such as the Tel-Aviv University, the David Oistrakh Festival in Parnu, Estonia, and the United States, starting his musical studies at the age of 4 with the piano, and continuing with trombone at the age of 10.
