Born in Algeciras (Spain) in 1968. Diplom in Orchester Conducting, Musicology and Composition at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música of Madrid. He has a degree in Law (Universidad Complutense). 1992 composition studies by F. Donatoni in Siena.1996-99 Postgraduated studies with H. Zender at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt. 1997 composer in residence at the Spanish Academy in Rome. 1997-99 scholarship from the DAAD/la Caixa. As conductor he has worked with differents ensembles of contemporan music in Spain, Italy and Germany. He lives in Berlin.
He has recieved commisions from the Biennale für Neue Musik Hannover, German Pavillion of the EXPO 2000, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, Spanish Culture Ministerium, Festival Internacional de Música y Danza of Granada, Staatsoper Berlin (chamber oper, 2005), Münchener Biennale (chamber oper, 2006), Teatro Real of Madrid (opera, 2007), Beethoven Fespiele 2008 etc. His pieces have been programed in festivals as Tage für Neue Musik (Stuttgart), Biennale von Venice, Saarbrücken Festspiele, Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Philharmonie (Berlin and Cologne), Konzerthaus (Berlin), Gawandhaus (Leipzig), Progetto-Musica (Rome), Spring Festival (Prague), Ultraschall Berlin, Ars Musica Brussels, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Lincoln Center (New York) etc. by interpreters as Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta de RTVE, Nürnberger Synphoniker, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Radio-Philharmonie Hannover (NDR), Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt, Orchestre de la SUisse Romande, Luzerner Sinfonie Orchester, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Recherche, MusikFabrik, Ensemble Oriol Berlin, SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, Neuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam etc.
He has recived composition prizes as the Cristóbal Halffter 1995, three prizes of the Spanish Authors Society (SGAE 96 and 97), Ciutat d’Alcoi (1997), Prize of the Spanish Culture Ministerium-Colegio de España in Paris (1998), First Composition Prize of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (1999), finalist of the Irino Composition Prize 1999 (Tokyo), Förderpreis in Komposition of the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung (München, 2000), Composition Prize of the Bergische Biennale (Wuppertal, 2001), Music National Prize (Spain, 2003), Antara Prize (Festival International of Contemporary Music of Lima 2007) etc.
Between 1991 and 1995 he was teaching Counterpoint and Fugue at the Real Conservatorio Madrid.
From october 2001 he is teacher for Composition at the Robert-Schumann-Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf.
