After
graduating from the Conservatoire de Bruxelles under Jules
Bastin, Anne-Catherine Gillet (1975) continued her studies
at the Conservatoire de Liège with Nicolas Christou.
She continues her development with Madame Isabel Garcisanz.
She was a finalist of the Concours
International de Chant de Verviers 1997 where she won the
Belgian French-Community prize for talent. In 1998 she became
laureate of the Voix Nouvelles Competition at the Opéra
Comique in Paris.
Anne-Catherine Gillet was engaged
by the Royal Opera of Wallonia for the seasons 97/98 to 2000/01
where she has interpreted numerous roles including the First
Lady in the “Magic Flute”, Seprina (Serva Padrona),
Clémence (Mireille-Gounod), Antonia (Homme de la Mancha
– produced by A. Bourseiller), the Shepherd (Tannhaüsser
- W. Herzog), Sophie (Werther) and Clairette (La fille de
Madame Angot), Jemmy (William Tell – directed by A.
Zedda)
In concert, she has been invited
by the Symphonic Orchestra of la Monnaie, the National Orchestra
of Belgium, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, the Lorraine
Philharmonia, the Ensemble Orchestral of Paris …
Her debut at the Théatre
Royal de la Monnaie was in 1999/2000 in the role of Frasquita
(Carmen) under the direction of Antonio Pappano and Bertrand
de Bill. At the Flemish Opera she made her first appearance
on the 31st of December 1999 singing a Grand Offenbach Gala
alongside Rita Gorr.
Anne-Catherine Gillet was invited
by the opera companies of Nancy (Niece, Peter Grimes 2000),
Montpellier (Constance, Quatorze Juillet, produced by J.Savary
2000), Amsterdam (Giannetta, L'Elisir d'Amore, - G.Ferro 2001),
La Monnaie (La Princesse, L'Enfant et les sortilèges
–d. M.Viotti 2001), Toulon (Sophie, Werther), and Geneva
(Karolka, Jenufa & Tebaldo, Don Carlo 2002 d.E.Pido).
In 2002/03 she made her debuts in
the Ring (as Woglinde in Das Rheingold) at the Royal Opera
of Wallonia (as Woglinde in Die Götterdämmerung)
and at the Théatre du Capitole of Toulouse, where she
was also casted as Papagena (Die Zauberflöte). Her interpretation
of Musetta (La Bohème) directed in La Monnaie by Antonio
Pappano did not go unnoticed.
In the following seasons (2003/04/05)
Anne-Catherine Gillet reappears as Musetta in la Bohème,
this time at the Grand Theatre of Geneva in a production by
Louis Langrée. She also reunites with Alberto Zedda
for Cenerentola (Clorinda) in Liège where a new debut
awaits her as Constance in Le Dialogues des Carmelites. At
the Opera of Marseille she plays the title role in L’Héritière
by Jean-Michel Damase, in Toulouse she sings Gabrièle
of La Vie Parisienne and at la Monnaie in a concert of French
opera music directed by Kazushi Ono, she performs alongside
José van Dam.
In 2005/06 Anne-Catherine will sing
the parts of Despina (Cosi), Zdenka (Arabella) and Lauretta
(Gianni Schicchi) in the Capitole of Toulouse. She will also
sing the title role of Poppea in the Coronation of Poppea
in Côme and Brescia directed by Ottavio Dantone, and
also at the Capitole of Toulouse under Cristophe Rousset.
In 2006/07 she shall sing
her first Mélisande in Liège, directed by Patrick
Davin and Philippe Sireuil. Anne-Catherine will also take
on the title role in Colombe de Damasse at Marseille and perform
as Marceline (Fidelio) at the Opéra d’Avignon.
Another debut is planned at the Zürich Opera as Laoula
(L’Etoile/Chabrier) which will be directed by John Eliot
Gardiner.
